My next halt from the port was at the King George Hospital Visakhapatnam, which is well-known for being the best and most ancient hospitals in the country. It is under the supervision of the local government and located in Vishakhapatnam. I knew that the hospital has been serving people and individuals near the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa for nearly 150 years. The hospital is quite famous in those areas and it is believed that it has been operating since the early years of 1845 when they had only 30 beds. With the passage of time, the hospital grew in stature and had almost 1037 beds so that it could help serving many patients at the same time. There was a proposal given to the authorities to change the name of the hospital and rename it as the Karamchand Gandhi Hospital. There are many new buildings that are added along with the single building, which stood at the time of establishment.
There are various other departments that are divided in the building so that patients can get full treatment and perform all the necessary tests. The hospital has divisions such as Maternity,
Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Venerology, and others, which help in carrying out various treatment procedures. There are separate outpatient departments, X ray units, Operation theatres and Canteen
for the common people. I visited almost all the departments and should say they were well-maintained and kept in proper condition for the general people. I could see many patients visiting the
campus and the authorities made sure that it was effective and helpful for the patients who were getting treated in the campus.
I came to know from the doctors that separate blocks and new operation theatres were constructed in the year 1951 and the hospital started adding up different departments and facilities for the general visitors. Once I visited the place of the King George Hospital Visakhapatnam, I could hardly recognize that it was more than 150 years old, such was its beauty. The whole area was well-maintained and managed by the authorities. After visiting the hospital, I decided to go to my next destination, which was the Bojjana Konda, one of the ancient and historical places of the city.
