It was on the third day of my stay at Chennai that I went to Marina Beach Chennai. As the beach was not far from the hotel where I stayed, I got up early in the morning and reached the beach before sunrise. To my surprise I saw that the place was full of tourists. As the sun rose from the sea, the sky began changing colors and I had some very good photographs of the sunrise. Soon the sun rose up in the sky and I decided to have a jog on the beach. I could see many joggers on the beach, and I found out that some of them came daily to the beach for jogging and exercise.
The beach is regarded as the second longest beach in the world and extended from St George Fort in the North to Besant Nagar in the South. It is also one of the most crowded beaches in the country. It is very sandy with hardly any rocks and the sea is said to be rough with undercurrents. So, bathing and swimming in the sea is not encouraged.
The beach has two swimming pools, the Marina swimming pool and the Anna swimming pool. I also saw a skating arena in the beach and stood at the railing that circled the arena, watching the children and adults skating. The ease with which they skated kept me spellbound.
Walking along the beach, I came upon the lighthouse, which was open to the public recently. I climbed up the lighthouse and form there I had a beautiful view of the city and the beach. The cool air from the sea was very refreshing and I stood there enjoying the cool breeze.
After spending a couple of hours at the beach I decided to have my breakfast at one of the shops at the beach. I had heard that they serve hot and fresh food. So I went into one of the shops and had upma, which is one of the specialties here, and coffee. It was slowly getting hot with the sun shining brightly and I went off to visit my next destination.
